Welcome

About me, VE2WPT

I was born on August 7, 1968 in Montreal, Qc, Canada. My interest in radio began at the early age of 5 years old. I'll never forget the day my father bought me my first portable AM radio. I must of played it for 2 days non-stop. Later on, in my teenage years, I experimented with many different types of radios. I guess it was only until a couple of years ago that my interest in radio changed. It went from CB radios to shortwave listening, to scanners and then on to Amateur radio. The ''ham bug'' got me back in 2002 when I started monitoring the ham bands on my portable scanner. I remember listening to hams rag-chewing on 2m. That's all it took and I was hooked! I said...''I gotta get into this!''

In 2004, I searched the internet for information on getting an Amateur radio licence. Soon enough, I got in touch with the Montreal Amateur Radio Club (MARC), and they pointed me in the right direcction. Shortly after, I started a home study and got my licence in April of 2006 (2 years later), due to work constraints.

I passed the basic exam at the Montreal Hamfest in Lasalle, Qc, and aquired the call sign VE2WPT. Since then, I've experimented on the Hf bands (15m, 20m, 40m, 80m) and have had many memorable qso's. Another great ham mode that I have grown fond of is PSK31, using the Echolink software. In just a few short months, I have recorded numerous contacts across all 5 continents. I can now say that I'm enjoying amateur radio very much.

I look forward to making many more contacts meeting ''hams'', new & old from around the globe. I'd like to give special thanks to everyone who has helped me along the way!

Today, you'll often find me on DMR, talking with my friends on the
RCM LCL-2 repeater @ 447.62500.

Enjoy your visit and hope to hear you on the bands....
